Asad Rauf, who was one of the best umpires of Pakistan, died in Lahore on Wednesday. Asad Rauf, who was included in the elite panel of the International Cricket Council (ICC), was 66 years old, has died of a heart attack.
Asad Rauf officiated in 49 Tests, 98 ODIs and 23 T20 Internationals in his career spanning 13 years. He was accused of spot-fixing in the 2013 IPL season. Then Asad Rauf was banned for five years by the BCCI in 2016. Asad Rauf’s life had changed a lot after the ban. He used to run a shoe-clothing shop in a market in Lahore. Asad’s death was informed by his brother Tahir Rauf. Tahir told that Asad was returning home after closing the shop on Wednesday, when he felt pain in his chest. After that he died.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President Rameez Raja tweeted, “Very sad to hear the news of Asad Rauf’s demise. He was not only a good umpire but also had a dash of humour. He would always put a smile on my face and whenever I remember him, he would do so. My sympathies to his family.
Rauf played 71 first-class matches for Pakistan’s National Bank and Railways and later became an umpire. He was included in the elite panel of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in April 2006.
