Humans have been desperate to step on Mars for the last 50 years. So far, about 7 thousand kg of garbage has been spread by humans on Mars but has not yet been able to step on the red planet. Due to human waste, Mars is now turning into a garbage dump. According to researchers, this waste includes hardware, malfunctioning spacecraft and those that have crashed on Mars. These especially include Mars Orbiter 2 of the Soviet Union, which crash-landed in the year 1971.
Kagari Kilic, a researcher at West Virginia University, has analyzed all the rovers and orbiters on Mars and found that 15,694 pounds of debris still exists on Mars. Scientists fear that humans are not only spreading pollution on their planet, but these debris may also contaminate samples collected by NASA’s Preservation Rover. This NASA rover is looking for evidence of ancient life on Mars.
Scientists say that most of this waste abounds because most of it was used to protect spacecraft. NASA’s rover has started collecting samples on Mars that will be brought back to Earth. During this, the rover has also taken a picture of the garbage spread on Mars. The rover sent a picture in June in which it was seen that a light was coming from afar. After this the rover was sent to investigate it.
After a few weeks, NASA’s rover reached the Hogwalo flat area, and it took good quality pictures. This revealed that this mysterious light was coming from a thermal blanket. This blanket was used to protect the spacecraft from high temperatures during landing. Earlier, NASA’s Ingenuity Helicopter took a picture in which a parachute and cone-shaped backshell were also seen. There are also many spoiled robots on Mars. This especially includes NASA’s Opportunity, which was active from 2004 to 2018. Because of all this, garbage is getting accumulated on Mars.
