Coronavirus cases cross 4,000 in India, 109 deaths. State-wise data here

New Delhi April 06, 2020: The total number of coronavirus cases in India today jumped to 4,067 after nearly 700 new infections were reported in past 24 hours, according to the latest data from Health Ministry. The death toll has gone up to 109 while 291 have recovered, showed the latest data. Maharashtra (690) was the worst affected state, followed by Tamil Nadu (571) and Delhi (503). On Sunday, the Health Ministry had reported 472 fresh cases.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country witnessed a surge last week as hundreds tested positive after attending a religious gathering held by the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi’s Nizamuddin last month. A top health ministry official on Sunday said that the rate of doubling of coronavirus cases cases in India is at present 4.1 days but if the cases linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation would not have happened, it would have been 7.4 days. State governments have since then been tracing those who attended the event and the people they came in contact with.

Total number of cases in India cross 4,000

Globally, the total coronavirus cases surged above 1.27 million while the death toll rose near 70,000, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University. US with over 3 lakh cases was the worst affected country, followed by Spain with 1.31 lakh infections and Italy 1.28 lakh infections. In terms of death toll, Italy reported over 15,000 death, followed by Spain at over 12,000 and US with nearly 10,000 deaths.

Though there was some drop in new cases from Italy and Spain, Britain reported a record 24-hour jump in deaths that surpassed even hard-hit Italy’s. Italy on Sunday registered its lowest day-to-day increase in deaths in more than two weeks — 525. Confirmed infections fell in Spain, too, and new deaths declined for the third straight day, dropping to 674. Britain reported more than 600 deaths on Sunday.
