A new study has revealed that chicken biryani is the most searched Indian food globally, with an average of 4.56 lakh searches per month globally last year. Butter chicken, samosa, chicken tikka masala, dosa, tandoori chicken, spinach paneer, naan, dal makhni and chaat were also among the top 10 most searched dishes. Semarsh’s research revealed that butter chicken, a favorite Punjabi dish, was discovered on an average of four million times, while in North India and beyond nationwide samosa was searched on an average of 3.9 lakh times. Other favorite Punjabi dishes, Chicken Tikka Masala, were searched 2.5 lakh times on average.
The famous South Indian cuisine Dosa was searched on an average of 2.28 lakh times. The other five foods in the list were: Tandoori Chicken, Palak Paneer, Naan, Dal Makhani and Chaat.
Sermarsh Head of Communication Fernando Angulo said, ‘We are not surprised to see these results. The reason for this is that Indian expatriates living abroad have reached their preferences everywhere. Punjabis have a significant number of people living abroad.
He adds, ‘However, our study presents entrepreneurial chefs living abroad and in India, as it reveals the market size for more exotic Indian foods.’ The study also shows that a significant global audience views Punjabi food as Indian food.
Spicy samosa and chaat in snacks are one of the 10 most searched online food. Those who discovered these dishes included people familiar with North India, as both foods are one of the most popular snacks in the region.
